Most Sunday mornings we set aside time to listen to Scripture, reflect on its revelation of God and to talk with one another about his calling on our lives. We usually call this time “Sunday morning Bible class.”
But the word “class” may be misleading. This hour is about much more than getting information in our heads. When we gather in groups to listen and discuss God’s words and our lives, we aim to allow God not only into our minds but into our hearts and souls so his ways become more evident in the ways we live.
One of the goals of the body of Christ (the church) is to help every member “become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13). Maturity in Christ involves distinguishing between right and wrong (Hebrews 5:14 – 6:2), growing in grace and knowledge of Christ (2 Pet 3:18), and being compelled by the love of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:14) for the sake of serving others.
Ultimately, the goal of every Christian is to be transformed into the image of Christ. God calls church leaders to “prepare [equip] God’s people for works of service” (Ephesians 4:11-12), and to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24). On our best days, that’s what we desire to experience at LRC.
So, join us soon for “Sunday morning Bible class.” Bring your Bible, and even a pencil and notepad. We hope to continue to learn God’s ways. But, also bring your heart, so you might join us as we grow to live God’s ways.
